You’ve probably heard that your heart has a mind of its own–those amazing cells and neurotransmitters that together can learn, remember and respond independently of the brain. When you lead with your heart, you make a deep connection to your inner self and to your environment.
Here’s a Heartbrain Meditative Walk (or Jog) that lets you “follow your heart” in a moving meditation:
• Stand tall with your eyes closed. Breathe in, following the flow of air deeply into your chest and belly. Continue to observe this flowing of breath as you relax your mind. Just be. Remain focused on your chest until you feel solidly connected to your heart.
• When you feel connected, open your eyes.
• Focus your eyes about 10-15 feet in front of you and begin to walk as you continue to breathe and maintain that heart connection. From a strong, erect posture, imagine your heart and chest leading you along the path. Maintain a soft-eye focus, where all you notice are colors and textures in your vision. (Some call this Buddha’s Eyes.)
• Slowly bump up your pace to either a quick walk or a gentle jog to your starting place. Keep your soft eye focus, breathe deeply, and let your heart lead you.
• If you lose focus, simply start again. Relax, take deep breaths, connect to your chest and heart, and follow your heart back.
